EEF responds to Government's announcement to expand Local Growth Deals

Commenting on the Government's announcement to expand Growth Deals, with a further £1bn of investment in local economies, Christopher Richards, Senior Business Environment Policy Adviser, said:

“Today's announcement is a welcome new development in the story of how best to support growth at the local level. The spending sticks to strategic economic plans developed with businesses across the country and provides greater certainty on budgets over the next couple of years.

“Looking ahead manufacturers are looking to Government to outline more clearly how LEPs fit into the wider debate about English devolution. While some LEPs still have some way to go on business engagement, the LEP model of partnership between business and local government is developing into an important part of the landscape.”
