Commenting on today’s Labour Market data, Felicity Burch, Senior Economist at EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation, said:

“This marks the longest sustained period of jobs growth for manufacturing since the mid-nineties and underlines the need for manufacturers to continue investing in the workforce skills they will need in the future, including higher level specialist skills where pay pressures are now starting to build. Nonetheless, the positive picture on jobs suggests that, despite slowing momentum in output growth, manufacturers remain optimistic about the longer term outlook for their businesses.”

Today’s labour market figures show employment in manufacturing continues to grow, with the number of jobs in the sector increasing by 1.3% in the first quarter of 2015.
