Commenting on the Northern transport strategy announced by the Government today, Paul Raynes, Director of Policy at EEF, the manufacturers' organisation, said:
“Today's Northern transport strategy contains some good proposals, particularly improving the road network to better support connectivity across Northern cities and improving access to regional airports. However manufacturers will question the emphasis on investing in the rail network, while our local roads continue to crumble.
"The approach of publishing a range of options for upgrades is also the correct one. But this shouldn't just be isolated to select regions and just the rail network. It should be broadened to all infrastructure sectors right across the country as part of a long-term infrastructure strategy."
