Commenting on today’s Labour Market Data, Ms Lee Hopley, Chief Economist at EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation, said:
“Today’s data shows manufacturers are recruiting heavily on the back of a strong year of output growth. 2014 saw the fastest annual growth rate in manufacturing jobs for twenty years and indicates that manufacturers have confidence this picture will continue.
“Manufacturing has a key role to play in delivering high quality jobs in the UK, but skills shortages remain a key challenge for the sector and this must be addressed to ensure companies can grow, compete and hire into the future.”
Employment in manufacturing grew 1.4% in 2014, the fastest rate of growth since 1995
