Commenting on the speech today by the Prime Minister on the EU, Terry Scuoler, Chief Executive of EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation, said:
“This is a welcome and balanced plan for reform. While the majority of manufacturers of all sizes want to remain in the EU, they are clear that it needs to be made fit for purpose to meet the many challenges we face in a tougher global environment. The Prime Minister has clearly stated as to how this can be achieved in a more transparent and accountable EU.
“Now the Prime Minister has set out his stall, we need to see a swift resolution to negotiations and a commitment to a firm date for a referendum at the earliest opportunity. It is essential that we remove the uncertainty surrounding our future relationship with the EU and move forward.”
Lord Mandelson will address EEF’s inaugural Annual Manufacturing Lecture this evening on Britain and its relationship with the EU. The lecture is at the Royal Society at 6.30 for 7pm and the event is open to the media.
