Commenting on today’s announcement from Ofcom on opening up BT’s infrastructure for new fibre broadband, Chris Richards, Head of Business Environment Policy at EEF said:

“This will provide a significant boost to competition and quality in the provision of digital infrastructure to industry. Manufacturers investing in new digital technologies associated with the 4th industrial revolution will welcome today's announcement as it unpicks a potential major barrier to progress.

“Today's announcement also marks another major milestone in building a full-fibre digital infrastructure network across the country. The debate on digital infrastructure has moved on significantly in this Parliament with broad agreement that fibre is the future. With a General election around the corner all parties must commit to maintaining this progress to ensure there is no let-up in the momentum behind making the UK the best location for the 4th industrial revolution.”
