This autumn, 46 first year apprentices travelled to YMCA Lakeside on Lake Windermere to take part in an Outdoor Learning Development Week. This is an opportunity EEF offers to our apprentices annually so they can step out of their comfort zone and embark on challenges to learn about their own skill set, personal limits and boundaries.

Apprentices are placed in groups and, with the help of a YMCA and EEF staff members, take part in mountain climbing, abseiling, canoeing and caving throughout the week.

From experience, we have found that apprentices gain a number of skills such as better communication, problem solving and decision making, team work and team leadership, giving and receiving constructive criticism and maintain good relationships.

The week is just one part of EEF’s extensive training and development program for apprentices for up to four years.
