As HSS consultant for EEF, Steve works delivering consultancy and training to members and none members. Duties include auditing, advising, developing management systems, developing and delivering bespoke, standardised and accredited training (IOSH, NEBOSH, etc) and acting as a source of competent advice (in some cases on an on-going basis). The role involves UK wide travel were working autonomously as well as in line with national team standards and budgets has given Steve a diverse skill set.
Steve previously worked as H&S Manager of Blackburn College, where it was his responsibility to ensure that the College provides a safe working environment. Prior to that, Steve worked for British Printing Industries Federation as a home based Safety and Training consultant. Duties included Health and Safety inspection, gap analysis and training.
Working in both the public sector and in industry has given Steve an excellent opportunity to familiarise himself with a diverse range of Health and Safety. From machinery safety, manual handling and COSHH/REACH, there are other areas such as DSE, stress, MH, lone working, occupational road risk, pressure systems, and electricity at work that are just as prevalent.
Steve has also gained a vast amount of experience writing reports that have resulted from audits and inspections and has worked with enforcement bodies and external consultants too and has an excellent grasp of the current standards worked to (BS EN ISO 18001, 14001, 9999/5588, 5266, etc).
