↑ UK TradeThe UK's trade in goods deficit narrowed by £0.4bn to £7.8bn in August from £8.2bn in July. Goods exports rose by £0.2bn and goods imports fell by £0.2 billion.
↓ Labour Market StatisticsThe number of people in employment fell by 178,000 in the three months to August, while the ILO measure of unemployment rose by 114,000, marking the largest quarterly increase in unemployment since July 2009. The ILO unemployment rate rose to 8.1%. The Claimant Count measure of unemployment – which records the number of people claiming Job Seekers' Allowance – rose for the seventh consecutive month, to 1.6 million in September, up 17,500 since August. The claimant count rate rose to 5.0%.
