EEF hosts successful events at Conservative party conference
This week EEF co-hosted two successful events at the Conservative party conference in Manchester, organised by the Enterprise Forum. On Monday evening we co-hosted a business reception, alongside the British Chambers of Commerce, Federation of Small Businesses, ACCA, ICAEW and IPSE. The event was attended by around 150 guests from business, politics and the media, and a guest speech was delivered by the Chancellor Rt Hon George Osborne MP who talked about the new government’s priorities for business in the months ahead.
On Tuesday, EEF co-hosted a fringe panel debate on the subject of ‘Winning the Global Race – Delivering a strategy for British business success’. Panellists included Rt Hon Anna Soubry MP, Minister of State for Small Business, Industry and Enterprise, Esther McVey, the former Employment Minister, Terry Scuoler, Chief Executive of EEF, Tony Caldeira, Managing Director of Caldeira Holdings, Cllr Donna Jones, Leader of Portsmouth Council, and it was chaired by Andrew Cumpsty, Chairman of the Enterprise Forum. The event was standing room only and there were a number of interesting discussions around global trade and investment priorities, and how to make Britain the best place to do business.
EEF will be continuing its engagement with the new government over the coming months and will be working to ensure that manufacturing is at the top of their business agenda, particularly in the run-up to the Spending Review and Autumn Statement on 25th November.
