The UK faces a major challenge to decarbonise our economy and strengthen economic growth. But achieving its Green and Growth ambitions will require the government to assess the competitiveness of green policies in the UK and reduce the cost and administrative burden on manufacturers.
Last year we set out our ambitions for how government should work together with the manufacturing sector to create a greener and more competitive economy. We found that manufacturers were being held back by the current policy framework and set out recommendations to overcome this.
Six months on we have surveyed members to assess progress. The clear message is that the cost and time manufacturers spend on policy in this area is increasing.
Furthermore, there are improvements that can be implemented to maintain the same environmental ambition but in a much more effective way.
