In this report we look at how to create a functioning market in training and skills where training providers, qualifications and apprenticeship frameworks respond to what manufacturers need.

Having the right people with the right skills is a crucial to any successful business and particularly to UK manufacturers who often compete in global markets on their ability to innovate and respond quickly to customer demand.

Many manufacturing companies, however, will tell you that attracting and retaining skills employees is a major business challenge. To address this many companies are taking their destiny into their own hands by increasing investment in skills and training and developing and attracting new talent through apprenticeships and engagement with schools and local colleges. Despite this, barriers remain.

Skills for Growth: a more productive and flexible labour force is a new survey and report from EEF which explores these issues in more depth. It looks at how to create a functioning market in training and skills where training providers, qualifications and apprenticeship frameworks respond to what manufacturers need.
