Richard began his career in manufacturing with Lucas Industries as a graduate trainee in 1985. He spent eighteen years with the company through its merger with Lucas Varity and, subsequent takeover by TRW where he became UK Operations Director for its Automotive Aftermarket business.
After a period of time working as Commercial Director for an SME, he became Commercial Director for Yuasa Battery Europe Ltd and then took the role as Business Unit Director for MAC Tools, part of Stanley UK Ltd. Latterly he was working for the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce on an AWM project engaging at the most senior level with Strategic Businesses.
He joined EEF as Region Director in March 2011 and is a Board Director for Birmingham Science City as well as The WMG Academy for Young Engineers. He chairs the Midlands Business Forum as well as the Midlands STEM Cohesion Group. He was also a Board Director of the West Midlands Manufacturing Consortium which ran MAS in the West Midlands and he continues to be involved in the residual projects in this area
Outside of work Richard is actively involved in the local community raising funds through a Charity Pool League as well as past involvement in Round Table helping organise events such as Solihull Carnival and Shirley Beer Festival.
