How to sell to the MOD, cyber essentials & export defence products update - Cambridge

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) are visiting the Midlands to engage with small and medium sized businesses. This event will describe the many procurement opportunities available and how to become part of the supply chain of the MOD.

Why attend?

The MOD spends approximately £14 billion a year procuring a wide variety of products and services to support the Armed Forces, both on operations and in peace time. In addition to complex military equipment requiring highly specialist suppliers and leading edge technology, the MOD also procures more ordinary ‘commodity’ items including:

Food for ration packs

Estate & facilities management

Stationery

Medical Supplies

Fuels and utilities

Clothing

Furniture

Consultancy Services

The MOD has a requirement for most types of product, either directly or indirectly, at some stage. Since 1st January 2016, the MOD has required their suppliers to have a Cyber Essentials certificate. MASS will help you to understand what these requirements are.

Less than 25% of SME’s actively export goods and services. DIT DSO will provide information on the current defence exporting opportunities and the support available for UK companies.

NDI is a membership supply chain and business development organisation. NDI will explain how it works with companies to match and source business opportunities and facilitate introductions.

Philip-MargerisonPhilip Margerison - Defence Suppliers Service – Manager, DE&S 

Phil is the Manager of the Defence Suppliers Service, which is the MoD focal point for the provision of advice and guidance to companies interested in becoming UK defence suppliers. He is also responsible for the management of the contract for the provision of the MoD Defence Contracts Online (MoD DCO) portal, the MOD Defence Contracts Bulletin (MoD DCB) and associated services.

He has several years experience in commercial policy dealing with the novation of contracts and company name change casework on behalf of the MoD and the provision of guidance on contractor insolvency and parent company indemnities. He has also worked in the contracts department of a major defence ompany, purchasing engines for the BAe 146 aircraft.

 

 

 

Howard-GibbsHoward Gibbs - Head, Small Business Unit – DIT DSO

Howard has been in charge of the Small Business Unit (SBU), part of the Department for International Trade Defence & Security Organisation (DIT DSO), since it was established in 2003. A career Civil Servant, Howard has worked at the London Passport Office and occupied a number of positions within the Ministry of Defence.

He was with the Defence Export Services Organisation at the time of its transfer from the MoD to UKTI in 2008. The SBU offers and facilitates Government support and assistance aimed at increasing the amount of overseas defence and security business won by UK SMEs. Today Howard will be explaining how UK SMEs can access a wide range of advice, information and support for defence and security exports and will detail many of the services and expertise available from DIT DSO.

 

 


Tasin Rios - Business Development Manager - MASS


Tasin Rios is the Business Development Manager at MASS and heads up the Cyber Essentials division.  In this session Tasin will set out the background to Cyber Essentials and the Defence Cyber Protection Partnership – a joint Government / Industry initiative to improve the level of protection from the cyber threat in the Defence supply chain.
