A fee is payable when a claim is lodged with an employment tribunal and a second fee is payable before the final hearing, otherwise the general rule is that employment tribunals do not award costs and the parties generally have to meet their own costs of bringing or defending a claim. They do, however, have the power to order employers who lose an employment tribunal claim in certain circumstances to pay a financial penalty. On this page we look at fees, costs and penalties.
