It is unlawful under the Equality Act for employers to discriminate directly or indirectly on grounds of a protected characteristic. These principles apply to pension provision just as they do to every other aspect of employment. The right to equal pay also applies to pension, as does the law that prohibits unjustified discrimination against part time workers and fixed-term employees. For more detail on discrimination, see Discrimination, equal pay and whistleblowing.
