This page considers how to manage employees who have long-term continuous absence. EEF's general approach is to encourage early intervention with sickness absence, and consistent with this we would say that an employee who is (or is likely to be) signed off work for 4 weeks or more should be treated as having ‘long-term’ absence. The advice in this page applies from the early stages of absence.
