Lean’s power and ability to bring meaningful change and improvements to organisations is well known, but the companies who do it best make the investment in highly bespoke, specialised and expensive Lean Academies. EEF have developed a Lean Academy for businesses of all sizes.

Manufacturers understand the power of Lean. It has become the go to model for driving efficiency through industries and organisations and is widely adopted. Industry giants like Motorola, GE and of course, Toyota are well known for their effective use of Lean. Where they have been particularly successful is in maintaining and continually delivering their Lean programmes. They do this through their “Lean Academies”.
Lean Academies are where the big Lean adopters bring all of their knowledge, expertise and experience in to a single place. From here they can coordinate and deliver their continuous improvement programmes. They can review, analyse and work through the Lean toolkit in a way that matches their organisation’s needs, culture and direction perfectly. They are wonderful units for these organisations, but what about the rest of us? What do we do when we can’t make a large investment such as this?
Lean Academies are expensive. There aren’t many other ways of looking at it. They do deliver huge improvements, that’s for sure, but the resource, time and financial investment required is beyond the reach of small and mid-sized businesses.
Building your own Lean Academy
It is possible to start to build your own Lean Academy without all of this investments. Here at EEF, we have specifically designed our Lean Academy Training Course around the needs and constraints of small businesses.
We’ve developed a training system that can be delivered through either our state-of-the-art training facility in Aston near Birmingham or at your premises. It is a training course that will give you and your team the ability to implement Lean continuously and in a way that’s sustainable.
The course has been developed to be meaningful and relevant. So many of the Lean Academy training courses available sell delegates short, giving them three pin plugs or Lego models to work with instead of actual products. This makes it harder for delegates to apply their training back to their workplace when they return.

EEF’s Lean Academy can bring the benefits of Lean through to all sizes of business. The central objective of Lean is the continuous improvement of your organisation. Having your own Lean Academy could well be the key.
