John is responsible for development and delivery of both public and in-house HR and Legal training in the Midlands and South. As an HR professional with many years’ experience predominantly in the private sector (Manufacturing, Leisure and Retail industry sectors) John commenced his career as a HR Generalist but has specialised in Employee Relations/Employment Law since 2001.
John joined EEF in 2009 as part of EEF’s Adviceline and then as HR & Legal Adviser, advising companies in on all aspects of HR and employment law, from reviewing and drafting contracts, advising on ‘employee’ issues such as equality, absence management, trade union matters, performance issues and redundancy to representing member companies at tribunal.
John transferred into the role of Senior HR Consultant in July 2014, a role which entailed working in both member and non-member companies undertaking a variety of ‘hands on’ tasks. Examples include chairing disciplinary and grievance hearings, chairing appeal hearings, interim HR work, collective and individual consultation in redundancy and TUPE situations, job evaluation and grading and mentoring.
Prior to joining EEF John held a variety of HR roles in private sector companies, ultimately as Group ER Director with a retail group employing 16,000 employees and with over 400 outlets. He has also owned his own HR/Employment Law and training consultancy business.
