David Smedley went from working on high tech aircraft as an electrical avionic engineer in the Royal Air Force to joining EEF’s Technology Training Centre team as an instructor in hydraulics and fluid power. Shortly after joining the team he was promoted to Senior Technical Tutor and now supports a wide variety of areas across EEF’s apprenticeship provision. David applies his experience and passion for teaching to helping apprentices developing their skills in manufacturing and engineering. He is also taking a leading role in mentoring apprentices who are competing in the skills Olympics, which are operated by WorldSkills.
One of David's favourite aspects of his job is seeing the state-of-the-art machinery at the EEF training facilities and working closely with other tutors who teach on this equipment, to ensure that the apprentices get the best start to their career as possible. The high quality of the kit at the EEF centre was one of the reasons David was attracted to working here as he believes the practical experience gained by EEF apprentices is second to none.
