EEF National Manufacturing Conference and Dinner

UK Steel will, for the first time, be taking part in the most significant date of the year in the manufacturing community’s diary.

In addition to the main plenary sessions, the Conference programme will feature two UK Steel workshops:

Steel in a Low Carbon World

10:15 – 11:15

The UK steel industry has a key role to play in the transition to a low-carbon future, by reducing the emissions associated with the production of this essential material but also in acting as an enabler to the rest of the economy. The steel sector can provide products and solutions to help lower emissions from other sectors economic activities, such as renewable energy production, lighter weight steels for electric vehicles or specialised steels for new energy efficiency buildings.  We are pleased to announce that two major UK steel producers will provide their vision of how the sector is an integral part of the UK Government vision and ambition for a low carbon economy.

Steel: The Foundation of an Industrial Strategy

14:10 – 15:20

The Industrial Strategy, set out last year in Green and White Papers, is a corner-stone policy of the Conservative Government, aiming to improve economic growth, increase productivity and build a more geographically balanced economy. As a foundation sector, supply the raw materials into numerous manufacturing and industrial supply chains, and providing thousands of high-paid, high-skilled jobs in areas outside of the South-East, the steel sector has a invaluable role to play here in helping to deliver the Government’s objectives and a strong, prosperous post-Brexit economy. This session will see key industrial and political players from the sector debate and discuss the enduring importance of the steel sector, the crucial role it has to play in the Industrial Strategy and how it can be enabled to deliver it.
