Exclusivity over a product or process can boost revenue, reputation and long term and stability. Patents protect inventions by giving the owner of the patent the right to stop anyone from making or selling their ideas, concepts or products. However, records at the Intellectual Property Office show that this area has been largely overlooked by the steel industry.
UK Steel is hosting a round-table session on ‘Protecting Your Intellectual Property’. Commencing at 10.30 on 27 July 2017 at Broadway House, London SW1H 9NQ.
The round-table session will cover:
• What counts as intellectual property?
• Owning intellectual property
• Types of protection
• Applying for a patent
• International patents
The session will be led by UK Steel member Chris McDonald and attended by Peter Arrowsmith. As the CEO of the Materials Processing Institute Chris leads a world leading industrial research organisation, supporting the materials, processing and energy sectors.
Peter is a Partner at Gill Jennings & Every, a leading intellectual property firm based in London and Munich. Peter has worked with a diverse range of global clients, but he particularly enjoys working with high-growth technology companies in the UK and advising on IP strategies that can add value. He has also worked with the investment community to provide IP due diligence during procurement or investment. Recommended by IAM Patent 1000 and Legal 500, Peter is also listed as an IP Star for 2016.
