Governments from steel producing countries around the World, will gather this week in Paris, to agree ways in which to definitively tackle global overcapacity and protectionism in the steel sector, to prevent a repeat of last year’s crisis.

Both the UK steel industry and Trade Unions call on the UK Government to work with partners from across the globe to reach a meaningful agreement. This must include measures to halt and reverse the rapid expansion of Chinese steelmaking capacity, the chief cause of the crisis which saw the loss of 1 in 6 jobs in the UK steel sector.
