Community and UK Steel have written to Secretary of State for International Trade, Liam Fox urging him to use the significant influence that the UK Government has at its disposal to obviate a worst case scenario and the imposition of tariffs on UK steel products. It is abundantly clear to any observer that UK exports to the US represent no threat to US national security and, moreover, no threat to the US Steel industry itself.

We state in the letter that it is essential the EU, with support from the UK, respond in a robust and appropriate manner in the face of this unnecessary protectionist move. As the in direct impacts will have a significant impact on prices here and therefore it is essential that any response from the EU has the full support of the UK Government.
