Key-statistics-2016The UK Steel Key Statistics 2016 booklet sets out our sector in numbers, both in the UK and globally.

Although the problems faced by our sector, formally became a ‘crisis’ in 2015, we experienced a further weakening in our position at the beginning of this year. A sector still battling low demand, still rising unfairly-traded steel imports, and uncompetitive policy costs.

The statistics paint this in a stark way, with a reduction of almost 60 percent in the number of people employed since 1995, steel production down 10 percent compared to 2014 (and predicted to be far lower by the end of 2016), and an increase of almost 400 percent of Chinese steel exports compared to 2009.
